Period Mapping
What if your “random” symptoms aren't actually random?
The exhaustion three days before.
The headache that appears every month.
The bloating you thought was something you ate.
The anxiety that seems to come from nowhere.
The pain you've learnt to work around.
The clots. The nausea. The sleepless nights. The days when your brain just will not bloody cooperate.
Individually, they can feel random.
Map them across a month and you might start to see a very different picture.
Your cycle is more than your period.
Most period trackers are designed to tell you when your next period is coming.
Period Mapping helps you understand what your cycle is actually doing to you.
Over four weeks, you'll map your symptoms alongside your cycle to see what's happening, when it's happening and whether patterns start to emerge.
Because when you're living it one symptom at a time, it's bloody difficult to see the whole picture.
28th Sept at 7pm
Maybe you know your periods affect you. You just don't know exactly how.
You have days when you're absolutely exhausted and others when you're fine.
Your period is painful, but you've got so used to working around it that you're not even sure what counts as “bad” anymore.
Your mood changes and you wonder whether it's hormones, stress, life or all three.
You get bloating, headaches, nausea, bowel changes or brain fog, but you've never really thought about whether they might be connected to your menstrual health.
Some months seem worse than others and you can't work out why.
Or perhaps you already track your period religiously.
You know exactly when it's due.
But you still couldn't tell me what the rest of your cycle is doing.
That's the bit we're going to map.
Knowing when your period is coming isn't the same as understanding your menstrual health.
Imagine being able to look back over your month and say:
Ah. That's when my energy drops.
My headaches keep appearing at the same point.
Those are the days my pain is actually at its worst.
My sleep goes to pot before everything else starts.
I didn't realise how often I was experiencing that.
Actually, this is affecting my life more than I thought.
That's what we're looking for.
Not a “perfect” cycle.
Not a diagnosis.
Your patterns. Your symptoms. Your individual menstrual health.
Four weeks. One cycle. A much clearer picture.
You'll get:
A live Period Mapping workshop
Your Period Mapping journal and tracking tools
Four weeks of guided symptom mapping
WhatsApp support throughout
A live review session
Your personalised Period Report Card
You don't need to track everything or spend hours thinking about your cycle.
We'll focus on the things that actually matter to you.
You won't be figuring this out on your own.
For four weeks, you'll be working with me, Gemma Barry, founder of The Well Woman Project, women's health practitioner, herbalist, author and former NHS nurse.
I've spent years working with women who know something isn't right with their periods but struggle to make sense of what they're experiencing or have simply got used to putting up with symptoms because they've been told they are normal.
I'll help you work out what's worth paying attention to, what questions to ask and how to start making sense of the information you're collecting.
Because Period Mapping isn't about handing you a tracker and telling you to get on with it.
I'll be there to help you understand what you're seeing.
Your Period Report Card
At the end of the four weeks, we'll bring everything you've recorded together.
Your personalised Period Report Card will help you see:
which symptoms are showing up most often
when they're happening in your cycle
which symptoms seem to appear together
patterns you might not have noticed before
changes or symptoms that may be worth exploring further
how much your menstrual health is affecting your everyday life
And then comes the important bit.
What do you do with that information?
Maybe you continue mapping because you've spotted something you want to understand better.
Maybe you realise there are predictable points in the month when you need to plan differently.
Maybe there's something practical you want to change.
Maybe you recognise that something you've been putting up with deserves more attention.
Or maybe you take your Period Report Card to your GP.
Instead of trying to remember three months of symptoms while someone stares at you over their computer screen, you've got a clear record of what's actually been happening.
Not just:
“My periods are really bad.”
But when the pain happens. How often you're exhausted. How heavy your bleeding is. Which symptoms appear together. Whether things are changing. And how much it's all affecting your everyday life.
The point isn't simply to collect information.
It's to understand your body well enough to decide what comes next.
Want to keep mapping?
Four weeks can give you an incredibly useful snapshot.
But our bodies aren't machines. One month might be affected by stress, illness, sleep, work, life or any number of other things.
One cycle gives you information. Several cycles start to reveal your patterns.
By the end of the four weeks, you'll have everything you need to continue Period Mapping independently.
And if you'd like to keep going with the support, accountability and community of others who are mapping too, you'll have the option to join the Period Mapping Club.
I'll tell you more about that towards the end of the four weeks.
A little extra support from Periods Aren't Meant to Bloody Hurt
My book, Periods Aren't Meant to Bloody Hurt, will also be available to buy as an optional companion to Period Mapping.
We'll be using some of the ideas and tools I've developed through the book as part of the Period Mapping process, and the book allows you to go deeper into understanding your period health.
It's particularly useful when we start looking at what's considered normal, symptoms that deserve more attention and the red flags that may mean it's time to seek further medical support.
You don't need to buy the book to take part in Period Mapping.
But if you want a resource you can keep coming back to alongside your maps, you can buy it here

Four weeks. One cycle. A much clearer picture of what your body has been trying to tell you.
Period Mapping doesn't diagnose medical conditions or replace medical care. It helps you understand and document your symptoms, identify patterns and gather useful information that can support conversations with healthcare professionals.
